For a project at uni we had to choose an existing plastic component to a product or design one from scratch. The purpose of the project was to learn all the steps involved in the complicated process of modelling a component and then producing tooling in Solid works. The objectives of the project was to:
- Learn about the the injection molding process and implications of part design
- The relationship between molded components and mold design
- Communicating with a second party for product manufacture (group partner)
- Specification of a product and material for injection moulding
We used Hales plastic moulding PDF from their website. As a reference for all standard components. The moulding had to use the standard JIS standard mould bases 1520 from Hales. And apply all relative Leader pins, Leader bushes, Ejector pins, Ejector bushes, Location ring, Sprue bush, Female cavity plate, Male Core plate, Top clamping plate, Bottom clamping plate, Ejector plate, Ejector retainer plate, Space blocks and all relative bolts.
