Behind the Scenes - Threaded Out Duo

I thought I would put up a few pictures from the photo shoot done for both the Threaded Out Table and Chair. They are unedited, selected from the hundreds of photos taken these ones show the set up involved in the whole session. And some of small details and odd shots taken. Enjoy!

Serving Boards - Salvaged Oregon

The serving boards are made from solid Oregon. The Oregon previously served as a eave on a house, salvaged before it made its way to the tip and crafted into serving boards.

Two types are available, full round over or half round over. The material is not virgin material so splits and crack can't be avoided. I have avoided the real bad ones when cutting out the serving boards.

And the best part about it is that the sealer "ubeaut" "FoodSafe Plus" is a pure food-grade mineral oil which prevents water absorption. It also helps preserve the timber and has no distinct odour or flavour.

Lumen

Our influences and inspiration for the Lumen light were mainly from nature. The general form of Lumen was inspired by the seed husk of a Monstera deliciosa, which is a plant that we found growing in Matthew’s back yard. Apart from exploring forms from nature, we also wanted to explore how a pendant light can cast shadows.

From the inspiration of the seed husk, the idea that the ply could be a protective structure for the bulb translated into a segmented skeletal structure that evolved many times throughout the design process allowing light to pass through.

Materials used are 3mm Hoop Pine Plywood. Milk paint was used for the finish. It is non-toxic and contains no petrochemicals or VOC'S. The milk paint has a combination of lime, milk protein, clays and earth pigments.
